Assemblies of God, Ghana Printing Press Limited (AGPP) is one of Ghana’s leading printing institutions, publishing a range of materials that conform to the values of the Press, including Christian and commercial materials. Our History
Assemblies of God, Printing Press PLC (AGPP), was established in 1950 (in the then Gold Coast) in the Northern Region town of Tamale by Rev. G.B. Anderson. It was under the name Assemblies of God Press. It was established to meet the literature needs of the church. In 1965, Rev. Herbert S. Griffens, a technically trained person, succeeded Rev. Anderson as the General Manager.
In 1970, the press was relocated to Accra (the present site), due to its central location and the nearby shipping possibilities under the new name Assemblies of God Literature Centre. Missionary personnel Rev. Monroe Robison, Rev. Herbert Griffin and Rev. John Weidman were the first to arrive and began production with Rev. Griffin as the General Manager. Messrs. John Baka and William Nyam were the first Ghanaian staff.
The Literature Centre catered for the gospel literature needs in the sub-region. It was the sole producer and supplier of gospel literature to Assemblies of God Churches in countries such as Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, etc. It published the first tentative Dagomba version of the New Testament in 1973.
The translation was completed by Rev. and Mrs. H. S. Lehman, along with an indigenous Pastor, Daniel Wumbee. It also produced printed materials for significant clients, including the Ministry of Education, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the University of Ghana Medical School, Asempa Publishers, Parliament of Ghana, Every Home Crusade, and Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, among others.
Leadership transitioned over the years from missionaries like Rev. Griffens, Rev. Monroe Robison, Rev. John Ellison, and Rev. Bob Jackson, whose tenure marked the end of the era of the missionaries in 1985. AGLC was incorporated as a company limited by shares in June 1986.
The Ghanaian church appointed Mr. William Essilfie Turkson as the first Ghanaian Managing Director (1985 – 1998). Mr. Henry Sackey succeeded him. He served as the Acting Managing Director from 1998 to 2006 and the Substantive Managing Director from 2006 to 2016. He was succeeded by Mr. Raymond K. Mensah, whose tenure ended on March 31, 2025. Mr. Francis Dadzie is the current Acting Managing Director.
The following worked in the production manager capacity over the period: Rev. Monroe Robison, Messrs. John Baka, Ebenezer Dzokoto, John Appiah, Bernard Austin, Joseph Abbey (Acting), Joshua Azumah Nelson (Acting) and Jerry Owusu Mireku (2018- Date)
In 1980, the Press established a book outlet known as Ghana Literature Outlet (GLO) as a marketing wing of the Printing Press. It was later renamed as the Assemblies of God Bookshops Limited (AGBL), which was registered as a separate limited liability company in 1989.
Today, Assemblies of God, Ghana Printing Press PLC stands as a heritage institution, a blend of missionary legacy and Ghanaian leadership, continuing its mission of advancing gospel literature and providing professional printing solutions in Ghana and beyond.
